If you’re looking for a beautiful wedding venue right in the middle of gorgeous natural surroundings, Saltwater Farm in Friday Harbor, Washington, is the perfect place. This sprawling property gives couples and guests incredible views of the Salish Sea in a warm, friendly, and inviting environment. The property has many different areas for use for wedding ceremonies and receptions, meaning couples can create the customized, unique day they’ve always dreamed of.
In the heart of San Juan Island, surrounded by gently rolling pastureland and intermittent stretches of Douglas fir forest, you can find Saltwater Farm. Saltwater Farm is a unique San Juan Island wedding venue and retreat destination. Consisting of a spacious barn event space, a chic lodge with dining and entertaining areas, and a handful of modern, stylish guest houses tucked into the trees throughout the property, Saltwater Farm is an ideal location for a destination style PNW wedding.
First, let’s talk about the barn! While the style of the building is that of a classic working farm, the deep black color makes it incredibly modern. This space is absolutely breathtaking. A waall of dramatic black metal is a modern contrast to the high ceilings and natural wood interior. Strings of lights arc from one side of the spacious space to the other, and a series of circular metal chandeliers hang from the soaring ceilings. The vast windows at the front of the barn can be opened to the fields outside to let in the sunlight and island breezes. The vaulted ceilings give the space a cathedral-like atmosphere. All the wood used in the construction of the barn and outlying buildings was sourced on the property.

It is just minutes away from Friday Harbor, offering couples a space that echoes a closeness with nature, a welcoming ambiance, and a unique architectural style.
Saltwater Farm feels like a world of its own, even though it’s close to Friday Harbor. The San Juan Valley, American Camp Trail, and protected port land surround the farm. Sunny meadows, fir forests, fields, and ponds make this space feel intimate and separate from the rest of the world. Guests can explore miles of nature trails, visit the farm animals and stroll in the gardens. From walking trails to star gazing to sipping champagne, there is something every guest can enjoy.
Multiple ceremony sites and an event barn are available for couples to use for their big day. This property is a beautiful place to celebrate with your closest family and friends. Altogether, the environment is truly unforgettable. Furthermore, the event staff is ready to make couples’ wedding dreams come to life – no matter how unique!
Saltwater Farm’s ceremony space is on a ridge overlooking the mountains and the sea. There are also over 150 acres of beautiful meadows, hills, and overlooks to explore to make your wedding day vision come to life.
The Barn is located right in the middle of the farm’s main meadow, providing a beautiful, intimate space to celebrate with family and friends. This building is 5,000 square feet, is solar-powered, and creates an ambiance of warmth and peacefulness. Wood paneling made from the island’s fir trees casts a warm glow. Moreover, The Barn is fully insulated and temperature-controlled and includes a catering kitchen, bathrooms, and a private wedding suite. Couples can host cocktail hour outside on the patio before directing guests inside for the reception.
The wedding suite is available for couples to get ready for the big day or just take a moment to relax and overlook the festivities. The suite is a two-bedroom, one-bathroom residence with a kitchen, loft, and living space that overlooks the event area. This is one space available for the wedding party to get ready. This space includes mirrors, seating, and champagne flutes.
The second wedding party area is called the Shop, a converted barn with a classy, industrial architectural style. The Shop has a bathroom, shower, wood-burning stove, and DIY bar. This is an ideal space for the wedding party to gather and get ready.
The Homegrown is a tiny home for couples to use for the wedding night or host out-of-town guests. This tiny home is located in the peaceful outer meadow. The fully equipped house includes a kitchen, dinette, queen bed, and bathroom.
The Inn is exclusively available to couples and their guests for weekend weddings. The Inn sits on a ridge overlooking the sea, a perfect gathering place for the couple’s family and friends. This location can be used for the rehearsal dinner featuring a 15-foot live-edge slab table built on-site or a farewell brunch on the deck while overlooking the water.
Finally, Stag’s Leap is the honeymoon suite in the Inn. Couples can enjoy an ocean view or sip champagne in their private cedar hot tub on the deck. Other rooms available include Sea Breeze, Fox Hollow, Ravenrise, Dragonfly, The Barn Suite, and The Homegrown (tiny home).
There are many gorgeous photo opportunities on this large farm, from sprawling fields to wildflower meadows, evergreen forests, and waterfront overlooks. Couples can enjoy plenty of natural light in the outdoor spaces or take intimate photos amidst the flowers and trees. Additionally, the warm colors of vibrant wood used for much of the property’s architecture make an excellent backdrop for photos. One of my favorite spots is the beautiful working garden that produces food for on-site catering. A beautiful and unique hexagonal arbor covered in lush vines is positioned at the entry to the garden, and raised beds full of herbs and edible flowers provide a charming backdrop for portraits.
