As an Olympic National Park wedding & elopement photographer, there’s not much I love more than a Lake Crescent elopement. I’ll never get bored of the stunning forested mountains that rise from the deepest sapphire blue water you’ve ever seen. If you’re at all familiar with Lake Crescent, you’ve likely seen photos of the iconic dock in front of Lake Crescent Lodge. It’s become a well-known and beloved location for locals and tourists alike. Hundreds of couples elope and celebrate their weddings in Olympic National Park every year, and Lake Crescent is near the top of the list of locations for many of them!
This lovely spring elopement started out at Lake Crescent Lodge—later on, we went to Cape Flattery for a short hike and the official “I Do’s,” but the day began with a sweet First Look on the lakeshore in front of the historic Lodge. The Lodge is so convenient because it has ample parking and public restrooms, as well as guest accommodations. The restaurant is great when you’re ready for a sit-down meal, and you can stroll the beach and forest trails or even hike Storm King Peak! Personally, I love to get a cocktail from the bar and sit on the sun porch to watch the sunset over the water.
On a perfect spring day, sunny with a slight breeze that ruffled the surface of the Lake, C & M had a sweet and intimate first look on the dock in front of Lake Crescent Lodge. The weather cooperated beautifully—the tiniest sprinkle of raindrops just made the air seem to glimmer in the streaming sunlight. It was a perfect beginning to C&M’s elopement day!

Lake Crescent Elopements: A Dream Destination in Olympic National Park
Tucked away in the heart of Olympic National Park, Lake Crescent is a hidden gem that offers couples an unforgettable place to elope. With its crystal-clear sapphire waters, dramatic mountain backdrops, and peaceful surroundings, Lake Crescent elopements are the perfect blend of romance, adventure, and natural beauty.
Whether you’re envisioning a private ceremony on the shore, a lakeside vow exchange surrounded by towering evergreens, or a quiet moment on the dock at sunset, Lake Crescent offers endless possibilities for a deeply personal and stunningly beautiful wedding day.
Why Choose Lake Crescent for Your Elopement?
Lake Crescent is known for its dramatic scenery—glacially carved and nestled between the Olympic Mountains, it’s one of the most scenic lakes in Washington State. Its clear blue water and reflective surface create an almost surreal atmosphere, especially during sunrise or golden hour. Couples can enjoy a quiet, intimate elopement while being immersed in one of the most picturesque landscapes in the Pacific Northwest.
The area offers easy access to a variety of backdrops, from dense forests and waterfalls to mountain views and historic lodges. One of the most popular ceremony spots is near the iconic Lake Crescent Lodge, a charming 1916 hotel that provides rustic elegance and easy lake access. The lodge is perfect for couples looking to get ready on-site or spend the night in comfort after their vows.
Ideal Spots for Lake Crescent Elopements
Some of the most breathtaking elopement spots around Lake Crescent include:
- The shorelines – Perfect for a simple, romantic ceremony with water and mountains in the background.
- Marymere Falls – A short hike from the lake brings you to this enchanting waterfall, ideal for nature-loving couples.
- Mount Storm King Trail – For adventurous couples, this hike offers incredible panoramic views and epic photo opportunities.
- Lake Crescent Lodge grounds – Beautifully maintained and close to the water, great for couples who want convenience and charm.
When to Elope at Lake Crescent
The best time for a Lake Crescent elopement is late spring through early fall. Summer brings the warmest temperatures and clearest skies, making it perfect for photos and outdoor ceremonies. Fall offers rich colors and a cozy atmosphere, while spring showcases lush greenery and blooming wildflowers. Winter elopements are possible too, though snow and weather conditions can limit access and visibility.
Elopement Tips
- Permits: Olympic National Park requires a special use permit for weddings and elopements, even for small ceremonies. Be sure to apply in advance.
- Timing: Early mornings or weekdays are best to avoid crowds and get the most privacy. Monday-Wednesday are the days with the least visitors at the most popular spots, making them my favorite days for elopements!
- Leave No Trace: Always respect the natural environment by packing out what you bring in and staying on designated trails and areas.
- Photography: Hiring a photographer (that’s me!) familiar with the park ensures you’ll get the best lighting, angles, and hidden spots.
Whether you want a serene lakeside moment or a bold mountain adventure, a Lake Crescent elopement offers a truly magical setting for couples who want to celebrate their love in nature’s embrace.
