Saltwater Farm SJI — A San Juan Island Wedding Venue
In the heart of San Juan Island, surrounded by gently rolling pastureland and intermittent stretches of Douglas fir forest, you can find Saltwater Farm. Saltwater Farm is a unique San Juan Island wedding venue and retreat destination. Consisting of a spacious barn event space, a chic lodge with dining and entertaining areas, and a handful of modern, stylish guest houses tucked into the trees throughout the property, Saltwater Farm is an ideal location for a destination style PNW wedding.
First, let’s talk about the barn! While the style of the building is one of a classic working barn, the deep black color makes it incredibly modern. The trim and exterior light This space is absolutely breathtaking. The high ceilings and natural wood interior are contrasted by a wall of dramatic black metal at the back. Strings of lights arc from one side of the spacious space to the other, and a series of circular metal chandeliers hang from the soaring ceilings. The vast windows at the front of the barn can be opened to the fields outside to let in the sunlight and island breezes. The vaulted ceilings give the space a cathedral-like atmosphere. All the wood used in the construction of the barn and outlying buildings was sourced on the property.
Next on my tour were the gardens. An arbor at the entry of the garden provides a focal point welcoming visitors deeper in to the lush, orderly rows. Laid out in beautiful, symmetrical raised beds, these gardens are as hard-working as they are beautiful. Vegetables, herbs, and fruit alternate with flowers to create a bountiful, riotous effect.
Next on my tour was the Lodge — an elegant entertaining space featuring a gorgeous live-edge table, stylish lounge area, and a modern fireplace for chilly nights. The windows of this space can be opened to enjoy the panoramic views of the lawns and ocean beyond. The lawn is the area typically used for wedding ceremonies, as the views across the Salish sea south towards the Olympic Mountains are the best on the property.
Scattered around the Lodge are five guest houses, each beautifully decorated in a palette of natural woods, black and white tile, and white walls. Adding to their charm, each guest house features slight differences in decor, layout, or position.
