Fall Sequim AirBnB Wedding at Peninsula Nursery

In my years as a Sequim Wedding Photographer, I’ve seen all kinds of venues used as wedding locations! Besides the usual event venues, I’ve photographed weddings and elopements at farms, gardens, city parks, state parks, National parks, National Forests, trailheads, beaches, museums, and family properties. Jen and Garrett’s October wedding was a first for me — they chose to hold their celebration at a local garden center! Peninsula Nursery in Sequim is a property that I’ve visited dozens of times shopping for plants; I even have memories of coming here with my mom as a child when it was under a different name. I never had the opportunity to see inside the historic farmhouse when I visited as a customer, so it was really exciting to get a chance to see the interior of the historic house as well! The owners use the farmhouse as an AirBnb, while the outdoor space is taken up with nursery stock. Jen got ready upstairs in once of the spacious bedrooms, while Garret got into his suit out in the modern black guesthouse. The main house is surprisingly spacious for being over a century old. I fell totally in love with the historic charm of the house and the bright, white upstairs bedrooms. Give me some historic detail, white walls, and big windows and I’m a very happy photographer! Some of my favorite images from the day are of Jen on her way to see Garrett with the beautiful cottage exterior architecture in the background!

Sequim Wedding Portraits at the Dungeness Spit

After Jen and Garrett had a chance to connect during a private first look, we drove down the road to a beautiful bluff overlooking the Strait of Juan de Fuca. No matter how many times I’ve been to this exact location, it always takes my breath away! It was the perfect sunny, crisp October day; weather on the North Olympic Peninsula can be really unpredictable in the fall, and we were so lucky to have a mild, sunny day. Jen’s saffron-colored linen skirt was totally stunning against the bleached summer grasses and fall foliage, and Garrett’s tweed suit was the perfect compliment. The jaw-dropping florals by  Dahlia Fields were seriously incredible; their sense for combining soft, romantic hues and texture is just unparalleled.

All of Jen & Garrett’s stylish guests got the memo on the dress code — saturated autumn colors and rich textures like silk, tweed, and brocade. The autumn sunshine really made the colors glow. Trees, shrubs, bushes, perennials, & annuals are all artfully arranged around the outside of the house and outbuildings, making the property feel more like a garden than a retail space. The ceremony took place in the nursery grounds outside the main farmhouse. Jen and Garret walked down the aisle together, which I thought was such a personal and meaningful take on tradition.

After the ceremony and some family photos, the couple and their guests enjoyed   in the garden while chefs from Port Townsend’s Paella House arrived to cook enormous trays of paella on-site. It was so neat to see the paella being made right in front of us! They made three different kids — seafood, sausage, and vegetarian. Afterwards the bride and groom cut into a beautiful cake by Wildflower Cakes. I’m happy to say it was my third opportunity to have a slice of cake by Wildflower this season — I even bought one of their cakes myself when I hosted a dinner party in August! Wildflower Cakes is always my first recommendation for a cake on the Olympic Peninsula.

Jen and Garrett had a beautiful, relaxed, thoughtful wedding day because they did exactly what made sense and suited them. The only traditions they incorporated in their wedding were ones that were meaningful and important to them; no time or energy was wasted on doing anything that didn’t feel personal and significant. They chose incredible vendors to work with – from Dahlia Fields to Paella House to Wildflower Cakes, each vendor was selected carefully and intentionally. I loved photographing Jen and Garret’s day!
