She was like something out of a fairy tale. Raven hair, skin like snow, a dress made of a million gossamer threads, and a retinue of rosy-cheeked ladies-in-waiting. The emotion of this day was tangible. Sarah and Jeffrey had spent months carefully creating every element of the day — Sarah’s vision of a romantic winter day was perfectly realized down to the pearlescent gray light and sparkling mist. But this day was about so much more than clouds of baby’s breath, overlapping folds of burlap and lace, or the romantic glow of lights throughout the reception. Every guest knew that this day was about the profound love between two people and the celebration of becoming family through vows of commitment. There is the family that you are born with, and the family that you choose. Sarah and Jeffrey not only chose one another, but also chose to become part of something larger than the two of them alone– a family of aunts, cousins, uncles, sisters, brothers, various in-laws, a couple little nieces, and even a few grandmas and grandpas for good measure.
