When Rebecca contacted me about her Sequim wedding in the fall, she mentioned making a trip out to Lake Crescent for romantic portraits before the wedding ceremony. My heart instantly started beating faster—any excuse to photograph a bride and groom at Lake Crescent is easy to say yes to! I was elated when Rebecca and Chris chose me for their wedding photography. I loved getting to know the two of them and how special and important Lake Crescent is to their love story. Seriously, I can’t imagine a better backdrop than the gorgeous scenery of the stunning blue lake and surrounding evergreen forests for timeless, breathtaking photos on your wedding day.
We met at Barnes Point on Lake Crescent, near Lake Crescent Lodge, in Olympic National Park. Barnes Point offers so many different locations for portraits the options are almost endless. Besides the iconic dock and westward views across the lake towards Fairholm, the lodge features beautiful historic cabins and a sun porch that are perfect for photos, even during inclement weather. I love the historic detail and character of the Lodge—during a quiet moment I can’t help but imagine all the travelers who have visited throughout the last century! Lake Crescent is one of the highlights of Olympic National Park, and believe it or not people come from all around the world to spend their wedding day at Lake Crescent, so I’m particularly lucky that it’s practically in my backyard.
Rebecca and Chris had a sweet, intimate “first look” on the lakeshore, and then we had some relaxed time to wander the grounds at Lake Crescent Lodge for portraits. It was a perfect, crisp October day and the autumn light made the fall foliage glow with rich color. It was easy to capture Rebecca and Chris’s affection for one another—while their rapport is grounded in the reality of busy lives and raising kids, they’re also as smitten with each other as a couple of teenage sweethearts.
It was important to Rebecca and Chris to include Chris’s son and daughter in a few family portraits to commemorate the start of their lives together as a family! I love recognizing that a marriage isn’t always just about two people—a marriage includes the generations before and after, and the community around a couple.
I loved creating romantic images of Rebecca and Christ at Lake Crescent, but this was only the first part of the day! Afterwards we made the journey back to Sequim for a sweet wedding ceremony under a panoramic view of the Olympic Mountains. Stay tuned for more photos from the rest of the day!
