Subtle Spring

I’m not sure there’s a photographer in the world who can resist the beauty of spring. As much as flowers make easy subjects, they’re impossible to resist for their innate beauty– and they oblige by standing so very still! I took an evening walk in the Washington Arboretum recently and the evening light made for a quieter, more contemplative atmosphere in which to appreciate the riotous beauty of the flowers and foliage. As the light dimmed, the colors turned moodier and more subtle, petals and unopened blossoms becoming points of light in the gathering dusk.

I love how filling the frame of the photograph with branches and blossoms makes the image take on an almost pattern-like quality.

  1. So this is going to sound all ‘poor little hawaii girl’ but I MISS THE CHANGING OF THE SEASONS, like spring! Okay, sometimes. Like things like this post. 😉 I love the vastness of the first image–and how the edges of the photo just sort of drop away. OH! And your website splash page is edge to edge PRETTY! that is all. xo
